Windows Server 2008 Released to Manufacturing
Approaching the company’s largest enterprise launch in its history, Microsoft reached another important milestone with the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Server 2008.
It's finally here. After months of messing round with the beta in endless virtual machines, Windows Server 2008 has been officially released. With built-in virtualization and the option of a core-only install, Microsoft are really getting the right idea regarding their most advanced server operating system ever.
No doubt everyone will expect a torrent of articles and howto's for the latest and greatest Windows Server. Well, that won't entirely be the case from me at least; I will continue writing for Windows Server 2003 for a while, although I may post the odd thing about the new O/S, as my knowledge grows!

New AJAX Rating System
For all that are interested - a minor improvement to the UI has been made, in regard to the way that users rate articles.
I realise this feature has not been working for some time, and we have had some problems with crawlers accidentally voting for articles, and ignoring the robots.txt file.
Anyway, now the rating system is handled by a javascript function and a seperate PHP file - it's faster, looks nicer (much nicer), and spiders can't rate articles. For those who have disabled JavaScript, articles can of course still be rated but a simple HTML form is used instead.

Site Stability
You may have noticed we have had lots of server stability problems recently. I feel I should explain the situation to everyone, if only to help you better understand the challenges I face running this project!
We have had a partial rewire in the building that houses the servers for this site, including a new Consumer Unit, with a less sensitive RCD. This should ensure that the power to the system is more stable, which was the cause of many service outages in the past.
Also, I have upgraded our router, and taken some load off the web server. This, along with the new modem should result in a faster and more responsive experience for everyone! I'll talk more about the upgrade in my blog.
